i know i could really give a shit about the city, calgary is pretty wealthy.
But First Nations people of Alberta aren’t so lucky. My mom’s reserve is almost completely washed out. The flats where I grew up and where I call my other home is underwater. My family don’t have homes. My grandmas, aunts, uncles, cousins were crying, all their hard earned possessions are gone. It’s easier for me to ignore the other people who have flooded homes in the city, I don’t know them. But when you have this whole family who cares about you and always wants to know if you’re doing well and if you work or go to school. You feel devastated.
I know what it’s like when your home is damaged by water. When you have to see the place where you escape to from the bad things is unrecognizable. It’s like being robbed. Only you can’t get mad at mother nature and that’s difficult. I’m not asking for much, but if anyone in the surrounding areas can call or donate, even to the city if you want and the surrounding towns. It would help, especially to the First Nations People. A lot of them suffer from poverty and addictions and even some have regular households as well. But First Nations people can’t get jobs or have life insurance or have generous friends/family to reach out to them. Also the news coverage on First Nations people is slim to absolutely nothing. The news coverage here only allows short clips. For anything First Nations related.
You’re also not a bad person if you can’t do anything, you’re not a horrible person if you scroll past this. There’s nothing wrong with that. Just get the message out.
